Referee Chris Foy Substituted During Newcastle vs Swansea Game After Being Hit In The Face By A Blocked Shot

Premier League referee Chris Foy was hit square in the face when Swans midfielder Jonjo Shelvey's shot was blocked by Magpies captain Fabricio Collocini and ricocheted in his direction.

The unsuspecting official was left motionless on the floor for several seconds before being treated by Newcastle medical staff.

Although he returned to his feet in an attempt to continue, Foy was eventually replaced by Anthony Taylor 30minutes later - leaving the field still looking slightly dazed and confused.

While the packed stadium cheered when Foy was flattened, the incident caused a similar outbreak in the Sky Sports Soccer Saturday studio, where pundits Paul Merson and Phil Thompson struggled to maintain their composure.

Social media site Twitter was also inundated with Foy-related comments such as: 'The ball hits referee Chris Foy - who goes down. (He didn't book himself for diving)'.

Who would be a referee?
